Trans Canada Highway shots
There is something to be said about skiing lines that you can see from the highway.
As you approach Revelstoke from the West, somewhere past Sicamous you enter the first of the monashee mountains. Large hills and smallish mountains surround you and then all of a sudden the first alpine face screams down at you. Mt-English towers over the highway and I can never help but stare and get excited about being home.
It’s North West face hints at an amazing line. There appears to be a chute that slices down from the summit and exits onto a lagre alpine face. From the highway; its tough to tell whether or not it goes, the chute is so deep that you cannot guess if it goes with rocks or without.
Last season I flew over the area and was able to finally see directly down the chute and I was psyched to see that it went clean.
Ever since that flight I have known that I would ski this line this year. All my information was gathered and it was simply time to wait for the conditions.
The conditions were there today and we shredded this line in fine style. Easy sled up, quick tour to the ridge, ramble along the ridge, quick powder turns, up the glacier and boot pack to the summit. Wrap around and into the chute, be blown away by how deep and curved it is, jump turn the 1000 foot chute, peel out and onto the face, enjoy awesome facetted powder turns down the face, eek around a few cliffs and center punch it to the bottom. Perfect.
And now in twenty years when I haven’t skied in over a decade I will be driving the Trans canada back to a town I once lived in and I will look up and be reminded of a great adventure I had years before.
Bagherra finally bagged
The big badass Bagherra was finally bagged. I am not 100% sure but I feel that this line has never been skied and is one of the proudest most badass line in Roger’s Pass. Not only due to the descent but the ascent. I have attempted it a few times and been refused by conditions and confidences. But yesterday group of boys from Golden and Revelstoke skied this line. I am not sure exactly where they went up nor exactly where they came down. But I do know that they bagged the summit and skied back down. 9 dudes in total.
I had a busy week taking my Level 2 avalanche course and throughout the course the stability was amazing in the Alpine. I felt like it was one of those weeks where things were super stable and I hoped that objectives where being accomplished.
I am sure that lots of other amazing things were skied but this line was one that I have dreamnt about for years and I am a bit jealous of their adventure. Not that I am one to complain I have had years of wicked lines but this is one I have looked forward to. Well done boys!
Swiss peak Movie
Well I have a new HD camera and have been trying to upload on vimeo instead of youtube, but somehow it is not working. I am trying to figure out how to get the most out of my videos, quality wise. It is HD but somehow does not look great, more tweaking to figure this out. In the meantime enjoy.
